Highlights

Due to heavy landslide in 2017 on GC-500  between Taurito and Mogán, the coast road can unfortunately no longer be used there. However, solutions are being worked on. There are several ways to get started with the unique Serenty Pass. You could take a taxi from Maspalomas to Puerto de Mogán at the petrol station or to the town of Mogan. Another option is to take the boat from Puerto Rico to Puerto de Mogán. They do allow bikes on board. What is highly dangerous, forbidden and not recommended for obvious safety reasons is to climb over the wall after Taurito or ride the bike on the motorway. High penalties can apply here.

Directions to Puerto Rico by boat

From our shop in Maspalomas, take the GC-500 towards Arguineguín / Puerto Rico. The coastal road is not flat, but is continuously rolling with short climbs and descents to Puerto Rico. This can get your pulse racing. Up to Puerto Rico you mostly have a view of the sea. You keep riding through small tourist towns until you reach the port. Check the departure times and prices.

In Puerto de Mogán you follow the GC-200 towards Mogán / La Aldea. From now on it goes steadily uphill with 3% average gradient. The Valley of Mogan is 10 km long and passes local houses and beautiful gardens. It can still be chilly in the early morning as the sun hasn't made it over the mountains yet. In the small town of Mogán, which has a local flair, it is worth stopping for a coffee. 2,5 km after the town of Mogán you reach Pie de la Cuesta in a left turn that leads to La Aldea. You now turn right onto the GC-605 towards Ayacata / Tejeda. Shift into your low gear and take the short, steep ramp up to the first house on the right.

From now on, all you have to do is enjoy the serenity. You will be totally embraced by nature, as this is one of the absolute highlights of climbs in Europe! You follow the road that slowly meanders upwards over endless hairpins. The extraordinary stone massives, sweet-smelling pine forests and the unique view let you fly up the first 400 meters to the El Mulato viewpoint. It gets even better; the higher you come, the more of the unique Serenity Pass is revealed beneath you. After 8,5 km from the the beginning of GC-605 you come to a sharp left turn where the road to Soria takes off to the right. You can now decide whether to continue in the direction of Presa de las Niñas or to the right in the direction of Soria.

If you'd like to contine left from here, you should explore the Serenity-Ayacata route instead. If you decide to follow the road to Soria, don't worry about the prohibition sign. It's a private road, so they waiver their liability and you're riding your own risk. The asphalt here is in quite bad shape. It reminds us of Paris - Roubaix. The following descent of 3,5 km is quite steep as well, so take extra care until you come to the next crossroads. If you turn left you have the opportunity to fill up drinks in the supermarket or you follow the street a little further to the Restaurant Casa Fernando and strengthen yourself there with a spanish bocadillo and mango smoothie.

You can also take the exit to Arguineguín. The 5 km descent is at least as spectacular down as Serenity was up. The asphalt is great, the road is wide and a road bike paradise. Once at the bottom you can let it run out in the 14 km long Soria valley or maybe let it rip with a few others in the slipstream. In the roundabout at El Pajar, follow the coastal road to Maspalomas like you did in the morning. You are also welcome to drive the route the other way around. Just keep in mind when the last ship departs in the afternoon from Puerto de Mogán.
