Highlights

From our shop, you start by following the GC-503. At Parque del Sur (the local park) you enter the first roundabout, take the second exit and stay on the GC-503. After about 2 km you will pass the water park, Aqualand, and in the following left turn you take a right onto the GC-504. This is the beginning of the peaceful Ayagaures Valley. Riding the 8 km long valley you will pass many local fincas with beautiful fragrant gardens. After a pleasant incline of only 2% and 200 climbing meters, you will reach the end of the valley and the first opportunity to refuel in Bar La Cuevita or Bar Pilancones.

From there you can already see the first long climb that is the start of Gran Canyon. Once you've crossed the large dam covered with cobblestones and taken your photos of the Ayagaures reservoir, you'll only be faced with dusty and rocky roads. The first ascent begins gently and ends with a crisp ramp to reach Eagle Pass. During these 2 km you will get a magnificent view that only gets better the closer you get to the top. Finally at the top, the longest climb is over. The first long descent into the canyon is awaiting. Apart from a few hikers or the occasional mountain biker, you are alone here. More short rocky climbs with pleasant S1 descents follow.

You will always follow the main gravel road until you arrive at a junction. Here you should follow the sign towards Maspalomas. You turn right and it goes downhill over larger and smaller stones. Stay focused, because especially in the slippery hairpin corners we've already seen people hitting the ground. After passing a small local farm, it goes into the Barranco after a few ups and downs. In the dried-up river bed, depending on your riding technique, it is of course recommended to ride through with more speed to get better flow.

However, our Merida One-Twenty full suspension makes the job easier for you and you'll hardly feel the stones. Towards the end of the riverbed you can admire the ancient stone aqueduct on your left side. Follow the road straight ahead past the quarry. The roundtrip ends at the Centro de Salud under the motorway bridge. Here you can enjoy a coffee or a freshly squeezed orange juice in the small bar at the roundabout. Well done!
